The Lane Group
STORY
Lane Engineering was formed in March of 1996 by Bobby Lane and Matthew Lane. For 25 years, Bobby had worked as an engineer in both the public and private sectors. His son, Matthew, had returned to graduate school to pursue his master’s degree after working in the private sector. An opportunity presented itself, and the father and son made the decision to start their own engineering firm. The Lanes were determined to create a firm that provided an unmatched level of service to clients throughout Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
In 2007, Lane Engineering expanded its services to include architecture with the acquisition of J.A. Gibson and Associates of Wytheville, VA. And the company adopted a new name - “The Lane Group”. Six years later, in 2013, The Lane Group (TLG) merged with Adams-Heath Engineering of Galax, VA.
Through the years, TLG has become one of the most respected and diverse architectural and engineering firms in the region. We are known for our ability to work with multiple state and federal agencies to develop innovative funding strategies that help make our clients’ projects a reality. Our dedicated and experienced professionals are experts at taking a project from conception through construction. At TLG, our foundation has always been providing exceptional services to our clients. We work well together and we stand ready to serve you.

“The Lane Group has been vital to the rapid development and expansion of public water and wastewater service seen throughout Southwest Virginia over the past 20 years. First as a regulator and now as a utility manager, I have witnessed first-hand their extraordinary level of client care, project development, and engineering design.”
